By Felix Mendelssohn · March 25, 2026

Germany lists 21 Felix Mendelssohn events in our database, the second largest country total after the United States. Berlin is the primary hub, with additional events in Munich, Essen, Bad Kissingen, Leipzig, and other cities. Germany has particular historical significance in Mendelssohn’s biography: he was born in Hamburg in 1809, worked extensively in Berlin, and served as conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1835 until his death in 1847.

Historical Significance

Felix Mendelssohn’s connection to Germany runs across multiple cities. Leipzig is home to the Mendelssohn-Haus museum at Goldschmidtstraße 12, where Mendelssohn lived from 1845 until his death. The Gewandhaus Orchestra, which Mendelssohn led for over a decade, continues to program his works regularly. Hamburg, his birthplace, also maintains programming related to his legacy.
